Nokia Beta Labs blog
About Nokia Beta Labs
Nokia Beta Labs is a website through which Nokia makes its beta applications available for public download. The applications provided by Beta Labs are still in development, but are considered "mature" enough to be released in order to be tested by users worldwide. Anyone can submit feedback about applications, which goes to the development team. After a period of time, an application either "graduated", meaning it is released as a final version, or is removed from the site and placed in an archive.
We built this website to share some of the exciting new ideas that we at Nokia have been working on. What we wish in return is of course your valuable insight of how to further improve the products. So please, be active in giving feedback!
Since nowadays “beta” is understood in many different ways, it is important that our users understand what we at Beta Labs mean by “beta”:
- Reasonably good quality, but also rough edges and occasional service breaks
- Not commercialized yet: not guaranteed, and not supported
- Under active development
- Free of charge
- Should not be used for commercial purposes
The best part of Beta Labs is that you have an opportunity to see your own suggestions coming to life. We hear everything you say – and promise to do our best to improve the applications based on your feedback.
Nokia Beta Labs is a lead-user community
While this site is open for all, it is not intended for everyone. Let us do a quick quiz:
Which of the following applies to you?
- I own a relatively new and advanced Nokia device
- I’m willing to tolerate rough edges, in return of get my hands on bleeding edge cool stuff
- I often get ideas how to improve the the gizmos I’m using
- I want to make a difference – and I am not afraid to share my opinions
We do not turn anyone away, but if you most of the list items didn't fit, this community might not suit you particularly well. Don’t get us wrong, we’re happy to see you here - we are just not sure you would enjoy it.
Community-driven open innovation
Nokia Beta Labs is all about the community. Without the active community, we would not have a service – and we know it. We try to serve you as well as we can and try to put you first, but we are an extremely small team with tight time resources.
The developer teams behind the products vary in size from a couple to tens of people. Despite their resources to talk back, the most important requirement for them is to listen to what you say in your feedback.
Naturally, we want to support innovativeness, quality feedback and all kind of behavior that has an effect on the offered products. So, show your skills, build a reputation and as a bonus, you might get more cool opportunities to participate!
